SPORTS DESERVE PRIORITY ATTENTION IN IKORODU – LSSC

The Executive Chairman, Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC), Dr. Kweku Tandoh has stated that sports deserve priority attention in Ikorodu beyond being seen as a recreational activity because it can unleash the hidden potentials of the teeming population of youths in the Division.

Speaking at the Ikorodu Division Sports stakeholders’ summit which was organised by Change Alliance Leadership Group, Tandoh said “the vision of the summit aligns with that of the State government in making the State a sports hub. A lot of advantages lie in sports whether as leisure or business. It helps to keep fit and healthy. It keeps the youths out of mischief. Sports have been used to curb youths’ restiveness and crime in developed countries like the USA and Britain”.

The Chairman, represented at the event by Dr. Kayode Micheal, recalled that the opening of viewing centres in the five divisions of the State during the FIFA Russia World Cup boosted economic activities at all the centres apart from providing the opportunity for residents to watch the live matches.

Earlier in her welcome address, Vice Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government Area, Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba said that since Ikorodu Division presently has a high percentage of youths, sports can be used as a tool to empower the youths provided the inherent opportunities that abound in the sector are fully maximised.

Olabanji-Oba appreciated the efforts being made by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode and HRM Kabiru A. Shotobi, Ayangbure of Ikorodu through initiating numerous sporting activities which have offered the sons and daughters of Ikorodu the opportunity to discover their hidden talents as well as improve their economic status.

Advising the residents to strive to make Ikorodu a place of choice for lovers of sports, Princess Olabanji-Oba urged the youths to desist from violence in the forthcoming elections.
